Jo'Catian Rebuker
This magic shield is forged by a mysterious group of sentient wurms whose work is prized for its craftiness. This shield has 3 charges and regains 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn. When you take damage from a creature you can see within 30 feet of you and are holding the shield, you can expend 1 of its charges as a reaction to reduce the damage you take by 1d6. When you do, you can also choose an ability. Until the end of its next turn, that creature magically has disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes of the chosen ability.
Once a creature has been affected by this property, it can't be affected by it again for 1 minute.
Wiggling Charges. While you're attuned to this shield as well as the Jo'Catian denier, you can use charges from either item to fuel this shield's properties.
"You said it had hands?" Ilra was intrigued. A trunk-headed creature, with sword and shield? It was probably the work of either a mismanaged transmutation or strange choice of illusion magic. But, there was always the chance of something new to be discovered. "Yes, two of them," she said. "It looked human except for its head. Its...awful head." She shuddered. "I was just barely able to get away. I saw it take the life of at least one guard. Whatever it is, it's strong." The woman sat across from Ilra in the small room. A small cup of tea sat in front of her, untouched. After a pause, Ilra stood up and began to collect his things. "Well, I suppose I'll get started then. Shouldn't be too hard to find a man or beast that fits that description." The woman looked up, suddenly relieved. "Really? You'll take the job?" "Sure will. Sounds fun. It's not every day I get to do something other than cast identify on something." She looked pleased. She picked up her tea, sipped it, and took out a handful of golden coins and placed them on the table. "Here's your advance. Thank you again so much for taking a look into this." Ilra smiled and finished putting on his coat. "You're welcome."
